Dear Volunteers,

Each year, the United Nations Department of Public Information (UN DPI) runs a conference in partnership with NGOs and civil society. In 2010 the conference will be held in Melbourne, just the third time it has been held outside New York, and will have the theme: Advance Global Health, Achieve the Millennium Development Goals. More information is available here: http://www.un.org/dpi/ngosection/conference/

DETAILS:

When: 30 August- 1 September 2010
Where: The Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, South Wharf, Melbourne.

WHO WILL BE THERE?

Representatives from 2,000 NGOs (non-governmental organizations) from all over the world; UN and government officials; UN agencies; corporations; civil society; educational, health and financial institutions; academics; private sector speakers from business and philanthropy; citizen activists and journalists will all gather for this conference.

VOLUNTEERS

In order to run effectively and efficiently, the conference relies on a core of dedicated volunteers. Volunteers are charged with a number of important roles including: conference logistics, ushering VIPs, speakers, journalists and delegates, manning the media centre and reporting conference proceedings.

Volunteers will be required for the duration of the conference: Sunday 29th of August to Wednesday 1st of September. Briefings for specialized volunteers will be held in the week preceding the conference.

This is a unique opportunity to play a crucial role in the working of a high profile UN Conference. Prospective volunteers can apply by filling out the form here: http://lucidcreations.wufoo.com/forms/volunteer-application/.

Applications close on the 6th August and volunteers will be notified soon after.

Please forward this email to people within your networks/organisation who may be interested in volunteering.

Regards,

Peter Willis on behalf of Professor Philip Batterham, Australian NGO Convenor

Dear all, thanks to those of you have been so forthcoming in getting required information. On a teleconference this morning with New York one issue that has come up is that of Workshop rapporteurs. As you may already know, each workshop will ideally have 2 people to take notes on proceedings, and after the conference will pull all of the reports together into one large communiqué of workshop content. Phil is targeting the university scene and I believe Neva will put out a call to NGOs, and it would be good to ensure maximum coverage- please circulate this callout to the workshops contact people you are involved with, or to your colleagues who might be attending and have an interest in helping out in this way. Some more information is attached.

Volunteers need to go here and fill in the form- http://lucidcreations.wufoo.com/forms/volunteer-application/

Just a reminder as well, though I’m sure you are all very aware of it, that applications close COB 23 July (New York time). I am trying to get a list of all workshops participants who haven’t registered, hopefully I’ll have this later today and can send it through.

Please let me know if you have any questions

Dear all,

Just a reminder that applications to be a volunteer close tomorrow.

If you could pass the link:
http://lucidcreations.wufoo.com/forms/volunteer-application/ on to your
networks reminding them that applications close tomorrow that would be
awesome. Just a reminder that this is a great opportunity to get a whole
lot of people registered for the conference.

Thanks heaps, I'll see you tomorrow.

Hi Deniz,

I suggest you contact the UN DPI Conference organisers directly.  Prof Phil Batterham is convenor - p.batterham@unimelb.edu.au.

The Global Health Gateway is not involved in the organising of conference volunteers, but will be sending delegates to the conference.  I hope this is helpful.
